The Hero with a Thousand Faces
2018 – 2021
This series is inspired by The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell, which suggests that modern life has lost ritual as a way of processing experience. Without ritual, transformation no longer has a clear structure — it becomes internal, continuous, and unresolved.
In this context, stress functions as a new, invisible ritual: repetitive, unconscious, and without release. Instead of leading to transformation, it accumulates.
The body becomes the site where this unfinished process unfolds. Under constant stress, it begins to deform, adapt, and lose its stability. It mutates.
These mutations are subtle but recognizable — tension, distortion, compression, fragmentation. They exist between the physical and the psychological, between control and its loss.
If in myth the hero transforms and returns, here the transformation never ends. The hero does not come back. The body remains in a state of ongoing change without resolution.
